XXL Must Really Be Feeling Lupe Fiasco

Im reading the April 2008 issue of XXL right now, and at first I thought maybe I was going crazy because I was noticing alot of things in the magazine pertaining to Lupe Fiasco. And then I actually had to stop, go back through the magazine and I realized that it wasn't just me and that the people over at XXL must really be feeling Lupe and his new album "The Cool."

I already knew that Gemstones was in the Show & Prove section of the magazine. But throughout the ENTIRE MAGAZINE, Lupe Fiasco is directly, discreetly and subliminally being mentioned in a bunch of sections. He is in the...

Negro Please section for his "Gangster Comment" he made in Entertainment Weekly a while ago.

Make Way Section where they joke about Child Rebel Soldiers, saying their album will be titled "Rebels with Scarves" with their lead single being "We Stay Fly (Maaalllin') HAHAHA

XXLMag.com where they show an online poll they did asking "Should Lupe Fiasco Retire after his next album," and 68% of people said No, Hip Hop Needs Him, and then the next highest percent was like Lupe Who?

Move the Crowd Section where they talk about his stage show at the Showbox in Seattle.

The Eye Candy Section is titled "Go Baby"

The cover article they did on Snoop Dogg is titled "The Coolest"

A section called "Back Up In This Bitch" which discusses West Coast rap, has segments in it titled "US Placers" and "Hi-Definition"

Another section called the The Show: Reign of the Tech that shows off some tech gagdets is titled "Go Go Gadget Flow"

I don't know what all this means, but after getting my Sherlock Holmes and now my Miss Cleo on for a second, Im predicting that we may be seeing a Lupe Fiasco XXL cover in the Future.

Lupe will be performing on Jay Leno TONIGHT!!!

I've Got Nothing

Ive been doing my daily "look for stuff to put on the blog" routine. But I have yet to find anything interesting enough to put up...

I was on OKP and saw a post where somebody was like "What rapper could Lupe beat in a fight." Dont the nigga got like a bunch of black belts and stuff? So Imma go with all of them...

Then I saw some blog where some dude called Lupe "The Dumbest Smart Rapper Alive," because of the racism video, and then proceeded to call Lupe a wanksta. Yeah a "wanksta," We still use that word? Better yet, did we EVER use that Word Forreal?

Well I guess you can go to http://www.lupefiasco.com/blog and see the video that somebody made for Go Baby...

Which ultimately brings me back to my point that I have nothing spectacular. And I'll be out of town for the weekend. So Imma Holla...

February 20, 2007...Lets Flashback For A Moment

One year ago from today, February 20, 2007, I was sitting in my dorm trying to think of who I would do my blog on. I had to start a blog for one of my internships as a way to become more familiar with online marketing tactics. I had a list of a couple of blog topics, Chris Brown, A Gossip Blog like http://www.theybf.com/ , and a plethora of other ideas ranging from Detailing Great Places to Travel, music, and PCS activities (LOL...inside joke).

So around this same time that I had to do a blog, I stumbled upon a rapper that I thought was kinda fly. He reminded me of JayZ in the whole attitude of "Look at me, Im Fly, Alot of people Rap Well, But I do it more Fly." As well as the attitude of "You can do you , BUT IMMA DO ME" (Love that song, Hood Anthem 2008). And thats just about all that I really like to see in people, Do You and Be Fly. Simple Right? So LSS (Long Story Short for future reference) I decided to do a blog on Lupe Fiasco.

Now normally when I am introduced to something new, I like to read up on it. So thats what I did, I read up on Lupe Fiasco. I would find interviews, and things, and the blog was basically just a reason for me to find out about some guy who had almost instantly came in and took the #2 spot as my favorite rapper ever. I never had to continue this blog, cause my internship definitely ain't pay me nothing to continue it. I did it for me. Because I like writing, and doing stuff like this anyway. Plus I was noticing that people were actually reading my blog, and they all enjoyed. So Fast Forward to now...

From just about Day 1, Ive always had Missons/Goals of this blog that Ive wanted to achieve, just so that I would have something to reach for. The shoutout on "The Cool" was actually the one thing that I thought would never happen. It was my mission that would motivate to make me work hard, and stay on top of things, sort of like Lupe saying his New Years Resolution was "to get a skyscraper. " So now that I got the Shoutout, and 10 times better than what I even imagined (being shouted on what I think is one of the best songs on the album), I've been asked, "So What Now? What do you want now?..."

MILLIONS UPON MILLIONS OF DOLLARS!!! will always be my first answer, but realistically I don't know. I would like for all the haters to S.A.N.D.O.S or (First S is suck, 2nd S is Something, Figure it out) L.T.P.P.O.M.P (too explicit to even hint at). But even with the mass amounts of hating going on, the love will overshadow it anyday. Shoutout to YOU, YES YOU, everybody who faithfully reads, everybody who comes by every once in a while, everybody who was there from the beginning (kennykenken??), everybody who came because of the shoutout, just everybody. Im SO SINCERRR...( As I write this Im listenting to Jay-Z song Threat, so it was fitting, I had to use it)

( Hears the Wrap it up Music Playing in the Background - "WRAP THAT SHIT UP B"...)

Yo! You Just Gone Play the Music On Me??...

Jesus, Lord, Religion, RIP to my Grandmother, Love Ya Hun!!!...(Gotta stop the music if I start talking about stuff like that)

Alright, So Im done. I have nothing else to say except for the Shoutouts. Lupe Fiasco, Bishop "Youlllll" G, FNF Crew- Jason, Simon, Gem, all yall. Femmes. Rims and Tims. Dr. Cornel West for being all over MTV, (We do need more Eagles and less Peacocks who are just strutting around). And YOU, YES YOU reading this cause if you made it this far, I love you more. Alot more. Not more that I love my mama though, but way more than I love Michael Jackson. WAY MORE. Aight Im really done. We'll see what happens this year, I need more missions/goals now, GOTTA DREAM BIG...This blog is living proof that it may happen one day.

MUAH!!!

One Question

What kind of Revolution is going on over at MTV Studios?

Lupe Fiasco was all over MTV last week, and now Dr. Cornel West is the Artist of the Week???

I don't know whats going on, but I like it. Maybe because it is "Black History Month"

Update: Okay now that I went to MTV and checked for the Artist of the Week, it is because its Black History Month.

"In honor of Black History Month, we’re honoring one of the foremost leaders and thinkers in Black America today: Dr. Cornel West.

Dr. Cornel West is an Ivy League-educated professor of religion and African-American studies at Princeton University. A renown, controversial philosopher, orator, scholar and activist, Dr. West has written close to 20 profoundly influential books on the topics of race, politics, culture and religion, including the best-selling book, Race Matters."

Lupe Fiasco: Interview
Lupe Fiasco is more likely to watch ‘Doctor Zhivago’ than MTV Base and says his positive approach stems from Islam. Not that he likes to big up himself too much, he tells Time Out

Over here in backwards Blighty we think that hip hop is all about glamour and coolness and all that stuff. But for Chicago native and white-hot rap star Lupe Fiasco, hip hop is about as sexy as Drynights lingerie.

‘I don't really get the same kinda romance that I would get from, like, jazz,’ he says. ‘And even to a lesser extent to rock ’n’ roll. Rock ’n’ roll has a romance to it – how can I put it? – a very vulgar romance, but still a romance; whereas hip hop has more façade. The romance of hip hop is like the struggle to get on. The romance is doin’ the ciphers and try’na get studio time and being on the bus and reciting your rhymes. That’s the romance of hip hop – the struggle to get there. But, once you get there, it’s gone.’

MTV's Artist of the Week

LUPE FIASCO...

If you're like me, you were watching MTV earlier this week and was thinking "Damn they had Lupe playing on the Making the Band Commercial, and the Challenge, What the Hell is going on?" SOMEBODY over at MTV finally did a good thing and made Lupe Fiasco artist of the week. I Remember when Keyshia Cole and Alicia Keys was artist of the week and I was SO TIRED of hearing those damn songs EVERY COMMERCIAL BREAK...But who could get tired of Lupe??? hahaha...Not Me, which can be attributed to the fact that I don't even watch MTV enough to get tired, but whatever...

Q & A with Lupe Fiasco

Click Link to Read the Entire Interview

Knowxone: Peace, Peace. So, is this your first time in Hawaii?

Lupe: Yes.

K: What places did you get a chance to check out since you’ve been on the island?

L: [We] went to the Pali View [Lookout], Wahiawa and a few places on the East side of the island.
K: Word. So you know Ian from Kicks/HI pretty good, right?

L: Yeah.

K: How did you guys form that relationship?

L: Well, when he first opened St. Alfred in Chicago, you know, I went in and paid a visit to the store and he was there. I went to say “What up.” We talked for a few minutes and found out we both knew the same people, and we just clicked. The store sort of became my new hangout.

K: Have you always been into the streetwear scene? And how did you get introduced to it?

L: Yeah, actually about like 2003-ish I went to Undefeated in LA. I was just looking for some new shoes, and I was like “Damn. They got different colors in these?”

K: So just from that experience, that was it?

L: Yeah. Fasho.

Article on the Show in Baltimore

Click the Link to Read Entire Article

Not only is Lupe Fiasco one of the most intelligent, engaging artists in hip hop today, he has a captivating and boyish charisma about him. This couldn't have been any more apparent than when he stopped mid-song, asked for the house lights to be turned on, pointed to a guy in the audience and proclaimed, "I caught you yawning!" To ensure that his audience was being "thoroughly entertained," he dug deep into his songbook and dedicated an impromptu minute of "Switch" to his sleepy fan before getting back into "Hurt Me Soul."

(Side Note: I wish I would have gotten the yawning fan, Switch Moment on camera...It was ridiculous. When the beat dropped, I thought I was gonna DIE...Everyone INSTANTLY starting jumping up and down and getting Crunk. I felt like I was at a Lil Jon Concert or something, It was Crazy)

Washington Post Article

Click Link Above to Read the Entire Article

While Kanye West waves his ego like a flag, his protege, Fiasco, won't engage -- even if he's the superior rapper. In fact, in "Superstar," Fiasco's current arena-rap semi-hit, he noted: "Wanna believe my own hype, but it's too untrue."

Instead of self-aggrandizing statements, he proffered jokes, riffing, for instance, about the intelligence deficit in modern mainstream hip-hop -- which led to a ridiculous ring-tone-style rap about fancy wheels and designer shoes whose lyrics were: "Rims and Tims/Rims and Tims/Rims and Tims," etc.

It was his introduction to "Dumb It Down," something Fiasco most certainly does not do in his music.

One just wishes he'd been a little smarter about the conceptualization and execution of his live show.

Carter's Cuff Clips- CHECK IT OUT!!!

Launches New Shoe Jewelry Designs and Remix Project

-- Building off last year’s successful debut, Carter’s Cuff Clips [CCC] returns with their latest release that is sure to revolutionize the way true sneaker heads wear their kicks. For those who don’t already know, CCC designs “Jewelry With A Purpose” – a newly developed, patented product that serves two purposes; prevents the cuff of your pants from dragging on the ground while also functioning as a fashionable jewelry accessory. The company expanded on its unique shoe jewelry product line with their latest release of new cuff clip designs and two collaboration projects that are sure to blow your mind.

ORIGINALS
Added to the core CCC lineup are two new pieces: Queen City and We Shootin’. Charlotte, NC is home to CCC and Carter pays homage to the city with his Queen City design. We Shootin’ is inspired by the Nas song “Made You Look” because the sterling silver, 6-shot gun chamber piece will be sure to attract plenty of eyes. More Original designs are in the works so keep a look out for Carter’s next pieces coming soon.

REMIX PROJECT
Carter’s Cuff Clips is working with two very cutting edge artists to kick-start the Remix project, a collection of collaborative works with various artists that share CCC’s vision of innovation and style. Jenna Wainwright from Barometer NYC created five exclusive designs for CCC. Each piece was handmade with precious metals and signed by Jenna. These one-of-a-kind clips are the first of our limited edition pieces that are available only on CUFFCLIP.com.Carter’s Cuff Clips teamed up with shoe customizer C. Williams for a collaboration project that truly makes sense.

Introducing the first ever Cuff Clip Shoe!!! CCC means business with this. Their cuff clip device was built into the shoe, and because their clips are removable you can wear these kicks any which way you want. CCC has big plans for this shoe so stayed tuned for what comes next.
