This is the quote that EVERYBODY has picked up from the article and have voiced their own opinions about. Mostly opinions of "Nigga Please," but hey...
Did you get picked on a lot when you were a kid?
When the gangbangers would try to pull it, I was like, ''Yo, I will f--- you up. And if you wanna call your cousin, call him. I'll call me! I'll call me right now.'' We were shooting TEC-9s when we were babies, so the whole gangsta image, that ain't nothing. When I was growing up, there was a crack house next door to us and they were trying to expand. My father was like, Are you serious? He took his gun, walked next door, and said, ''You're done,'' while I aimed my gun out of the window. I was 13 or 14 and to see that, a lot of the facade and the upkeep [of trying] to impress people was eliminated very early for me.

man, iono i was raised in a tough area of the bronx where i seen people get caught in drive by's and get capped in the head. And some of the shit hes saying on how his neighborhood was sounds a bit fishy. Why in the hell would he have someones blood on his door knob and not clean it. lol
not hating on lupe, im a real big fan of his but chicago must be on some level of ghettoness no other city has yet to acheive
Where in the article did Lupe mention a bloody door knob ? I'm not trying to discredit your comment, I just don't remember reading that. As for naysayers is itreally important where Lupe Fiasco grew up? I don't doubt his "credibility" for a second....but that is not the reason I love Lupe! I'm sure Fiasco's upbringing played a large role in the shaping of his unique style, but there were other contributing factors, as Lupe has stated before. Lets not get into this who is really hood mess. Its stupid.
"I grew up in the hood around prostitutes, drug dealers, killers, and gangbangers, but I also grew up juxtaposed: On the doorknob outside of our apartment, there was blood from some guy who got shot; but inside, there was National Geographic magazines and encyclopedias and a little library bookshelf situation. "
for anonymous above.
your right though hoodness dont matter, it just would of been better if lupe never mentioned it.
LOL @ the first comment..true..I seriously doubt all that stuff he was saying was literal. I'm not doubting that there wasn't at the least at one time blood on a door knob..but seriously..
I got picked on alot for my feet since I was a kid. I was shot as hell with biig feet and I'm stll am! I'm 22, 5'6, and wearing a size 13 shoe. Ain't that sumin?
yes, that is somethin. LOL
he's basically saying his father was such a big influence on him, that he didn't really care who had a problem with what he was. It's all imagery, but to use that in normal conversation, sheesh Lupe, dumb it down lol.

also the other part, where he is saying blood on the doorknob, probably means that the crap outside of his home, was so close to taking him over, He could even touch it (blood on the door), but his home kept him away from all that crap.
