Ludacris,Lupe Fiasco electrify student crowd: A TCNJ Review

"The raw energy generated by Fiasco spilled into the crowd as hands stayed up, waving and pulsing to such songs as "Hello Goodbye," "Go Go Gadget" and "Little Weapon."

Following his song "Streets on Fire," Fiasco said he would begin singing songs that were nominated for Grammy Awards.

Crowd participation skyrocketed when "Kick Push" and "Paris Tokyo" were performed but when the opening piano notes of Fiasco's monster hit, "Superstar" began to play, there were few who were not singing along with the superstar."

Lupe Fiasco: Some Folks Dress Better Than Kanye *enter Kanye bitchfest HERE*

Kanye West made a stir both when he said he takes fashion inspiration from gay people, and when he backtracked on that statement this month by saying, "That's when I was ignorant to gays. 'Cause there's a lot of gay people who don't dress good at all. There's a lot of gay people that I dress way better than." Backstage at the Y-3 show, where Kanye showed up with a pretty fly ducktail/mini-mullet haircut, his friend and frequent collaborator Lupe Fiasco backed him up. "It's true!" said Lupe (who, incidentally, is waiting to talk to former tour-mate Chris Brown "until all this nonsense boils over"). "What do you want me to say?" Lupe acknowledged that Kanye doesn't dress better than EVERY minority group. "Japanese people and people from Paris have the best style. They can beat Kanye hands down. That’s where we get it from," he said. But he did think Kanye has the style edge on most of his fellow rappers. Said Lupe, "He definitely dresses better than me."

Lupe Fiasco's The Cool IS THE BEST RAP ALBUM

""With this album, I think he shocked everyone because even his core fanbase expected the same intricate rhyme patterns, [but] he took it further," XXL magazine's Bonsu Thompson told MTV News. "With concepts like 'Hip Hop Saved My Life,' even his commercial records like 'Paris, Tokyo,' they were beautiful records. He focused more on instrumentation and [showed] that he really had an ear for music, just as sharp as ever."

AHH Year in Review: Who Was The King of the Midwest :coughLUPEcough:

I told yall...Lu is topping everyone list...first post of 2009 BITCHES!

Lupe Fiasco:

Lupe spent the majority of 2008 riding the success of his critically acclaimed sophomore album The Cool. The crossover appeal of “Superstar” helped the album hit number one on Billboard Rap charts. The March 2008 video release of the poignant “Hip-Hop Saved My Life” pushed the album past gold and secured Lupe his first plaque.

Fiasco also took the time this year to partner with Coca Cola for the Refresh Your Flow Tour, a concert series aimed at empowering teens around the country from thirteen to seventeen years old that are active in their communities.

Next year, Lupe looks to again enthrall Hip-Hop fans with an ambitious three disc album named LupE.N.D. and the debut album from Child Rebel Soldier, a super group featuring Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, and Lupe.

Standout Songs:

“Hip-Hop Saved My Life,” “Superstar,” “Paris, Tokyo”

Lupe Fiasco "Doing the Right Thing"

He is donating winter coats to the youth in his hometown of Chicago...

"Lupe Fiasco will be doing his part this holiday season by handing out winter coats to needy kids in his Chicago hometown.

Chi-Town’s Channel 7 news reports that the Grammy-award winning MC chipped in $5,000 in an effort to help families in the area. He has already given out hundreds of jackets on the East Side of town and plans on heading to his West Side neighborhood later today."

Vin's TOP 5 American Rappers of the Year

Don't know who this VIN character is (i think hes a music critic) but he's alright in my book...he named Lu in his Top 5 rappers this year...placing him in 4th...this is what he had to say about our commander-in-chief...

"Lupe Fiasco returned in 2008 with his album 'The Cool' which was actually a song from his previous album 'Food and Liquor'. His kick off single 'Superstar' blazed mainstream American radio solidifying his name among Hip Hop's hottest artists. Lupe Fiasco even earned a shout out in T.I.'s '56 Bars' making T.I.'s list of Hip Hop greats. He definitely left his mark this year and fans are eagerly awaiting his third and supposedly final album 'LupE.N.D'."

DJ Semtex BEST OF 2008-The Cool

Here's what he said about THE GRAMMY AWARD WINNING AND 8 TIME NOMINATED Lupe Fiasco and The Cool :)

"Lupe Fiasco is one of the most slept on artists. A lot of people didn’t clock the depth of his lyrical skills on this project, and he may have needed a couple more ‘Superstars’ to get that mass media attention.

The Carter 3 is hot, as ‘808s & Heartbreak’, but ‘The Cool’ is a body of work in the same way that ‘College Dropout’, or ‘Black & Both sides are. This is pure Hip-Hop, one of those classic albums where you don’t have to press the forward button on any track, and every time you listen to it, you clock a deeper meaning behind what he was saying.

‘Streets on fire’ is my favourite joint, his performance at Somerset House in 08′ was exceptional, he has longevity in this Hip-Hop game even though he keeps threatening to retire."

Damn anyone who disagrees with Semtex!!!! lmao

THE MAN is ganking Lupe related Youtube videos

I blame the recession...

"If you want to watch music videos from artists like Diddy, Missy Elliot or Lupe Fiasco, don’t bother going to YouTube. Warner Music Group has yanked their videos from Youtube (nearly 20 percent of the market) after negotiations with Google (YouTube’s owner) failed. “We are working actively to find a resolution with YouTube that would enable the return of our artists’ content to the site,” the label said in a statement. “Until then, we simply cannot accept terms that fail to appropriately and fairly compensate recording artists, songwriters, labels and publishers for the value they provide.” Warner basically wants to make more money from their videos online and YouTube has been very slow converting their massive traffic into income. Sites that are profiting from their content, like Hulu.com, are consistently growing. Warner Music Group videos are still available on MTV and MySpace."

Lupe Speaks on Barack Obama

Recently at a show at Santa Clara University...

"Wake up!" commanded Lupe Fiasco as he took the stage in the sold-out Leavey Center Friday night.

Without sounding pretentious, Fiasco questioned the stereotypes and delusions revolving around the hip hop lifestyle.

Fiasco brought the presidential election to the attention of his audience with his abrupt slogan, which resonated throughout the arena and in the ears of many concert-goers well after the show.

The Knux, two brothers from Hollywood-via-New Orleans with a passion for abstract-progressive hip hop, opened the concert.

Following The Knux, the charismatic Fiasco hit the stage outfitted in all black to a crowd chanting, "Lu-pe. Lu-pe."

What seemed to be Fiasco's group of bodyguards turned out to be his back-up band, 1500 or Nothin'. The band and Lupe created a jazzy feel on stage. Their sound featured multiple keyboards, two guitars and a drum set.

Blue lights danced as Fiasco performed the first few tracks from his debut album, "Food & Liquor."

An obvious energy filtered from stage to audience, with little down time between songs.

Heralded as being the next vanguard for the continuously changing hip hop scene, Fiasco's second song of the night was the atypical story of a skateboarding youngster escaping his troubles in "Kick, Push."

The song refrains from spreading the stereotypical portrayal of the hip hop lifestyle that is often heard on the radio. Instead, Fiasco shed a different light on drugs, money and "hoes."

Like other social activists who have been progressive within the hip hop world -- including Nas, Tupac Shakur and Jay-Z -- Fiasco's lyrics encourage listeners to be content with themselves without having to seek happiness through less fulfilling means.

Fiasco embraces his Muslim background and condemns drugs, drinking and living the flashy lifestyle of many other artists.

The atmosphere livened up even more with a few tracks from Fiasco's newest album, "The Cool." Lupe's energetic performances further set him apart from many other hip hop artists.

As the concert occurred only hours after the first presidential debate between John McCain and Barack Obama, Fiasco had no trouble conveniently making a few comments about this year's election.

"A vote for Barack is a vote for the future, a vote for McCain is a vote for the past," said Fiasco. He added, "Ladies and gentlemen, the most important vote is the vote for yourselves." At this point, Lupe's sunglasses came off and the performance became a bit more personal.

Near the end of the show, Fiasco performed what is arguably his most famous single, "Superstar." He then entered into a lengthy dialogue with the crowd, imploring them up from the apathetic daydream that seems to be characteristic of much of our generation: "If we don't wake up now, ladies and gentlemen, there might not be a tomorrow to wake up to. Wake up!"

It will be interesting to see how successful Fiasco is at redefining "cool" and remaining true to his abstinence from the frivolous lifestyles of other artists as he makes his mark in the hip hop world.

Though his lyrical messages may not have rung out as loudly as his political dialogue between songs, without a doubt, the performance was timely and well-received by students."

Lupe loves Harry Potter

via MTV.com

"Harry Potter has his 10-year "birthday" this week, but it's not just the fantasy crowd that's celebrating (either with wizard-rock shows or readathons).

We checked in with a variety of musicians and actors (some from the films, some not) to see what they thought about the boy wizard and how he's impacted their lives. We thought we might get laughed at — after all, a lot of these folks were walking the red carpet at the VMAs and probably had something far more glamorous to attend to. But mention Harry Potter, and some people just light up."

Lupe Fiasco: "I'm a spectator of the entire phenomenon, you know what I'm saying? The entire phenomenon inspires me. I love Harry Potter [he points to his own specs] because of the glasses."

Lupe Fiasco Interview with Rap Up

After performing at Sunday’s VMAs, Lupe Fiasco spoke to Rap-Up.com about his third and possibly final studio album, L.U.P.N., due in stores by the end of 2009.

“I just don’t really feel like rapping anymore,” Lupe admitted. “I’m going to write a book and put out [other artists’] albums like Matthew Santos.”

Sadly, he stands by his word and claims it’s not another Jay-Z episode.

The “Superstar” rapper says he hasn’t even started recording the new album yet. He will begin work next year.

"Lupe Fiasco you are NOT Andre 3000"

via VIMBY BLOG

"Stop it. Just. Stop. It.

I don’t care. It’s one thing to deal with the biters outside of the industry, but at an artists level you should really think twice about some of the clothes you wear and what it conveys. This look conveys “I don’t care, I’m going horseback riding…on Andre 3000’s stylee”

Sweetie...I don't think Andree 3 Stacks would rock this outfit...

"Superstar" is going Karaoke

spotted at HHDX

"Lupe Fiasco reached a large audience with his 2007 hit "Superstar." The song was a chart-topping radio success, as well as a nomination for last night's MTV Music Awards [click to read].

Now, after a strong run, the song is to be immortalized in XBox's new game LIPS. Described to be in the tradition of Rock Band and Guitar Hero, the game challenges players on their ability to rock the microphone over an array of hits from Hip Hop history.

"It's dope. I've had my songs in games before, but more as kinda the soundtrack," Lupe told HipHopDX Monday night. "For now, for my song to be part of the game, so to speak, is like ill. It's revolutionary. It's revolutionary in the sense that this game, LIPS, focuses on Hip Hop. The microphone, you can't just sing like karaoke, line-for-line, you actually have to rock the mic."

"It's amazing," Lupe added, seeing his song get appreciated in new medium. "I just did a show and said, 'I can't believe this is my life.' I'm at a point now where it's Lupe Fiasco everyday, and I kinda forget that I'm famous, or that I have celebrity or what-have-you, and to be reminded of it in ways like this [game] is [shocking]."

Asked if this opportunity will alter Lupe's relationship with songwriting, he laughed, saying, "It's gonna make me that much more responsible. [It's going to make me] say more and do better. It goes other places, into performing. A new level of professionalism, focusing on the art, a new level of integrity - everything is heightened for me."

Lupe closed that the artist featured on "Superstar," Matthew Santos is working on a yet to be titled album, the next released by 1st & 15th Records. A single is to be released by year's end."
