I blame the recession...
"If you want to watch music videos from artists like Diddy, Missy Elliot or Lupe Fiasco, don’t bother going to YouTube. Warner Music Group has yanked their videos from Youtube (nearly 20 percent of the market) after negotiations with Google (YouTube’s owner) failed. “We are working actively to find a resolution with YouTube that would enable the return of our artists’ content to the site,” the label said in a statement. “Until then, we simply cannot accept terms that fail to appropriately and fairly compensate recording artists, songwriters, labels and publishers for the value they provide.” Warner basically wants to make more money from their videos online and YouTube has been very slow converting their massive traffic into income. Sites that are profiting from their content, like Hulu.com, are consistently growing. Warner Music Group videos are still available on MTV and MySpace."

People don't get that artists are losing massive revenue from youtube, limewire, and the like.
I'm all for artists getting their due.
Granted, I might be a little biased...
But it's just the right thing to do.
If the script was flipped...if you didn't get paid for a week's work, how would you feel?

i didn't say anywhere in that post that i disagreed? so what are u talking about?
wait a minute, what revenue do you lose from a music video? especially artsits...you COULD argue labels lose money except that BET not only NEVER plays lupe videos, they also don't pay for the videos they do play. or concert footage. stopping downloads is one thing, but videos? whack
i call Greed on the part of Warner...1/7
My bad to Kaycee...
Seemed like you were agreeing with youtube, especially considering the..."THE MAN is ganking Lupe related Youtube videos"
"The man" normally doesn't have a good connotation 'round these parts...but I digress.
And I stand by my point...I gotta side with Warner on this.
Youtube's making massive profits (I imagine) from ad revenue. Millions of people visit their site on the daily. They wouldn't be getting any of those site visits if Warner hadn't allowed those videos to be posted. Warner's just asking for their due...
I know labels are often made to look like the devil in these type of situations, but I feel kinda bad for them.
They pay massive amounts of money to make an artist via promotion, touring, CD/video recording (although arguably in Lupe's case they don't market him enough...instead choosing to favor ignorant headliners with little substance), and then people just steal their content...there's a false sense of entitlement that comes with media. People just expect it to be free, somehow...
Artists have to make a living, too. And not only artists, but everybody who makes the artist possible. Tour managers, stage hands, producers, engineers, etc...
That revenue goes places. Warner has a right to fight for it.
To KayCee, you didn't directly say it but it was certainly implied by how you wrote this post so no need to be so defensive. Anyway, I agree with Joseph Edwards completely.
